Sleep Max — Privacy & Billing

Last updated 21 August 2026

The short version: Sleep Max works with no account. An account is optional; creating one syncs your nights so you can compete and take part in the community. Your diary notes, heart rate, HRV, sleep stages and raw movement data stay on your phone either way. The one thing that sends data anywhere else is the optional AI coach, described below. We don’t sell your data, and there are no ad or analytics trackers in the app.

Without an account

Everything you log — nights, factors, notes, sound mixes, your chronotype and schedule — is stored only on your device. No server of ours receives it, so we cannot see it, back it up, or hand it to anyone. The app is fully usable this way, forever. You are never asked to sign up to keep using what you already have. The one exception, in either case, is the AI coach if you choose to use it — see The AI coach.

With an account

An account exists for one reason: the parts of Sleep Max that involve other people — leaderboards, profiles, the forum and direct messages — cannot work on a device alone. When you create one, these are synced to our server:

What is never sent to our server, with an account or without: the notes you write about a night, the factor tags you pick, your heart rate, your HRV, your sleep stages, and the raw movement samples from phone tracking. Our server has nowhere to put them — there is no column for any of them. They stay on your device and are deleted with the app.

The AI coach

The AI coach is an optional paid feature and the one part of Sleep Max that sends anything to a company other than us. It works this way whether or not you have an account. If you ask the coach a question, we send a short profile to a third-party AI provider so it can compose a reply:

Your night-by-night diary, your written notes, your heart rate, HRV and sleep stages are not sent to the coach. Your name, email and handle are not sent either — the provider receives no identity, only the sleep facts above. The provider processes the request to answer it and is not permitted to use it to train models or for advertising. If you never open the coach, none of this happens.

Who can see what

Your nights are yours. Following someone shows you their handle, chronotype, city if they set one, and their consistency score — never their actual sleep. Leaderboards are opt-in: until you turn competing on, you appear on no board, and you can appear anonymously if you prefer. Turning it off removes you from the boards and keeps all your data.

Deleting your account

Settings → Account → Delete account removes your account and everything attached to it — synced nights, scores, profile, posts, messages and leaderboard entries — from our server. It is immediate and it is not reversible. The data still on your device stays there, and the app keeps working without an account. You can also sign out of every device at once from the same screen.

Age limits

You must be 13 or older to create a Sleep Max account, and 16 or older to use the community features — the forum, direct messages and profiles. We ask for your date of birth to apply these limits. Sleep Max is not directed at children, and the app itself can be used with no account and no personal data at any age.

Analytics & tracking

Sleep Max ships with no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. We don’t build an advertising ID, we don’t fingerprint you, we don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and there are no ad networks in the app. We do count our own totals — how many accounts exist, how many nights were logged — calculated from the data above when we look, not gathered separately about you. The AI coach is the single exception to “no third parties”, and it is described in full above.

Sign in with Google

If you choose Google to sign in, Google confirms your identity to us and we receive your email address and a Google account identifier. We never receive your Google password, and we ask Google for nothing else — no contacts, no calendar, no Drive.

Payments & subscriptions

Purchases are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play (managed via RevenueCat). We never see or store your card number — the app store handles the transaction and simply tells us whether your subscription is active.

Our billing promises, in plain terms:

Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period, per the app store’s standard terms.

Apple Health (HealthKit)

If you connect Apple Health, Sleep Max reads only sleep analysis, resting heart rate and heart-rate variability, and it never writes anything back. Your heart rate and HRV never leave your device — they are used only to show your own insights inside the app. From an imported night, only the same times and quality fields listed above are synced, and only if you have an account. HealthKit data is never used for advertising or marketing, is never sold, and is never shared with third parties. Revoke access anytime in Apple’s Health app under Sharing → Apps, or disconnect in Sleep Max’s Settings.

Not medical advice

Sleep Max is a self-help tool based on CBT-I, the treatment the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends first for chronic insomnia. Sleep Max delivers that published protocol, but the app itself has not been clinically validated, it does not diagnose any condition, and it is not a substitute for care from a clinician. Phone-based sleep estimates are not clinical-grade and the app says so. Sleep restriction can increase daytime sleepiness — see the safety guidance in the app and in our Terms. Talk to a clinician about persistent sleep problems. Sleep Max is not a crisis service; the app lists crisis lines, and if you are in danger please contact your local emergency number.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we’ll update the date above and surface the change in the app.
